Glass Art

New 2002

synergy exhibition

I work in both Leadlight and Kiln Formed Glass (also known as "warm" glass to distinguish it from "hot" or blown glass).  I trained at the Melbourne CAE and had a residency at the Meat Market.

Swirls of Sand Blasted Kelp enclose a colourful fish of fused bottle chips.  Bubbles of copper wire float by.
I bought a fresh Sea Perch from the market and did a plaster cast of one side of it.  A glass sheet decorated with small glass chips and stringers was slumped to take the shape of the cast.  Unfortunately, the plaster cracked giving rise to a "fault line" effect. One has to be prepared for surprises in warm glass work!  Thus it became a "fossil" fish. perch

I love the effect of chips of colours trapped between the glass sheets.  It gives an "organic" feel to an otherwise rigid leadlight window.
