Liz - "Past life"

My childhood was spent in various rural locations in South Australia. In keeping with my Sagittarian birth sign, moving was a way of life. By the time I was 17, I had called eleven different houses "Home". This number has been raised to twenty two during adulthood.
Most enjoyable were my teenage years in Port Lincoln, with its superb marine scenery and unparalleled opportunities for aquatic activities - swimming, fishing, boating and surfing, as well as camping and exploring the bush in nearby National Parks.

I moved to Adelaide for tertiary studies, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Applied Physics after five years part and full-time study and a wide variety of casual employment. Somewhere in here, I managed also to learn welding, cake icing and the elements of three languages! Graduation
Graduation
Upon graduation I worked on research projects in all three of Adelaide's leading tertiary institutions, SAIT (now University of South Australia), Flinders and Adelaide Universities.
Areas of investigation included Metallurgy, High Vacuum Surface Chemistry and Electron Microscopy in the field of Cell Biology.

A colleague in the High Vacuum research group was Mohri Mamaru, who later became Japan's first astronaut, continuing his experiments from the Space Shuttle.
Other skills developed during this time were graphics and photography. The latter was practised both at work and during leisure hours as a serious amateur.
Port Dock Museum
In 1977 I married student soulmate John, in a ceremony at Adelaide Railway Station, followed by a reception in the historic 1920s Pullman dining car "Adelaide", on a picturesque train journey through the Adelaide Hills.  The dining car is now at the Port Dock Station Railway Museum in Port Adelaide.

Together, we continued to enjoy many leisure time activities, including camping and walking, boating, music, cinema, theatre and enjoying the company of friends.

In 1981 we embarked on travels in Australia and New Zealand before continuing further afield for an extended period overseas.

Being unable to take up full-time employment as a result of injuries received in an accident, I discovered artistic talents. I undertook part-time studies in Fine and Decorative Arts, Psychology and Philosophy. I began consolidating artistic direction and participated in a group exhibition in the Moore Gallery, Melbourne. I also had a solo showing at the RSL club, Albury NSW, and shared and solo showings at the Swedish Church, Toorak, VIC. Artist

During our time in Melbourne, John and I continued to enjoy outdoor and cultural interests, bought a 20 ft sailing boat, and began learning Norwegian. The only connection between these latter two is that we gave the boat a Norwegian name - "Midnatsol" - Midnight Sun. And no, we are not planning to sail to Norway! Boat in trees with John
